I was fortunate to catch a comedy show last weekend. Brian Regan is a comedian in the true sense of the word. He demonstrates that the timing of the joke is just as important as the joke itself. That extra second pause and funny expression while the punch line sets in can take a joke from just funny to hilarious, and Brian has it dead on!
His bits are taken right out of everyday life. He appeals to the funny side of the ordinary experiences of people in the audience, giving his comedy a universal appeal. Some aspects of comedy can be rehearsed and practiced but some you just have to be born with, and that he was!
After two hours of genuinely funny stuff, I realized he hadn't used any foul language, jokes degrading women (or any one else for that matter) , hadn't insulted one nationality or ethnic group and yet had the whole audience in stitches! This is a quality shared by only a handful of the greatest comedians that have ever been in the business. Jackie Gleason, Bill Cosby, Red Skelton come to mind.
If you ever get the chance to catch his act do it! You need not be afraid of bringing Grand mom or the kids either. This is is comedy that won't leave you red faced and embarrassed. Just leaving with a smile on your face!
